Centre for Universal Design

This is the Centre for Universal Design website: probably would have been a good idea to put a post up about it earlier, but better late than never i guess :P but this is really useful for a general idea about Universal Design

This a great toy. I was just looking quickly, so I don’t have time at the moment to go into more detail, but I’ll update this post soon.

A couple of great resources

A couple of sites that I’ve found that are very useful for learning about the different ‘types’ of disabilities. They are also good link sites

Water Trumpet

Hmmm the text that was attatched to this toy interested me, so I’m going to investigate this company more and see what they’re talking about, but i thought I’d put up this toy and the text that was attatched to it. (Oh, and ‘ALEX’ is the manufacturer)

“ALEX’s mission is to provide children with quality products that foster personal expression and build self-esteem. The best children’s activities provide lots of fun and they open a child’s mind to new skills, new ideas, and new worlds.”

Tomy

Tomy is a great toy company that has lots of great examples of games that aren’t ‘boring’ (by which i mean they aren’t just old fashioned board games that use a flat board and nothing else. Its not that games that do use flat boards are necessarily boring, but in general they tend to be less engaging) . I’ve already posted some of their games, and I’ll probably end up posting more, but I thought it might be good to put in their website too

Quack Shot

This is a really nice example of a game that helps to build hand-eye coordination. The players need to shoot down the animals that are moving around the circle, which requires hand-eye coordination to line up their shots and shoot them at the right time. It also builds social skills as there are multiple players playing (rather than just one person using it).

Math Shark

This is a nice example of en electronic toy that doesn’t require a TV or computer to use it. Quite nice aesthetically too

Pop-Up Pirate

This is a really cool game: it builds interaction and helps children to link the two things (the swords going in and the pirate popping up). Its also a very interactive toy, and has great aesthetics. I really like this one :)

Gassy Gus

Another pretty random game. I guess i just like the way that they’re making it fairly interactive. I also like the aesthetic look
